Hi Bahia!
You don't really have to add soil to the planters. You will have to fertilize them every so often.. maybe a few times a year. Not much. You can fertilize easily using some water soluble fertilizer so that the plants are fertilized as you water them.

Hi! I was thinking of making my own but maybe a permanent vertical garden, but then I'm wondering about maintenance, do I have to fertilize the soil regularly, or resoil them once in a while?

I am sorry I didn't get to see when I was visiting Singapore last month. I hope that some day, all HDB flats have green rooftops. :)

It depends on what system you use. The Woolly Pockets have a built in liner so would be able to make your L and you wouldn't have to worry about leaks.

Is it possible to make a vertical garden that is in the shape of an upside-down 'L' or would the water just drip off of the overhang part?

Hello,

Thank you for the kind words. Plant selection is very site specific and we focus on catering the plant material to the site to ensure successful establishment. It is also important to understand water quality and nutrients and develop a plant pallet that has compatible nutrient requirements. Lastly, knowing how a plant will behave in a vertical landscape is important. For examples, plants become phototropic in living walls and grow at different rates. Pair masses of plants next to one another that have equal growth rates. We try to avoid many vining plants on living walls like pathos and ivy because they are very aggressive and can strangle other plants quickly.
