DIY vertical garden
Here’s an interesting video of Matthew in NY who decided to build a living wall Patrick Blanc style in his own house. This method typically consists of PVC sheets as a hard backing. In this case I believe he had the frame built out of wood, stapled the PVC sheets to that.. and then layered the whole thing with a thick felt.
Patrick’s style on how he builds is no secret for the most part.. but there are some specifics. I used to think it was just felt (Patrick used polyamide felt) stapled to the pvc. After more researching it turns out there’s actually two layers of felt on this type of wall. Where each plant goes, there’s typically a pocket created between the two layers of felt that has dirt in it. That helps keep the plants rooted in the wall.
This is a great style living wall/vertical garden to have.. and Matt is nice enough to have a detailed explanation on how he built the wall. He ordered the PVC sintra sheets and riveted each one to the sturdy frame, then got a custom resevoir built, then time added the pump and lights and the end result is an amazing vertical garden. Matthew gives more details on his green wall blog so you can see for yourself.

Thanks for sharing this video. After seeing so many great examples on your site, I’m excited to see a DIY project. It’s still bigger than I am ready to take on, but I appreciate the construction details.
