Named “Rainforest Rhapsody,” this 2000 sq ft garden installed at CapitaLand contains 120 plant species. The grade A office building at 6th Battery Rd, Ensemble, Singapore won the Green Mark Platinum Award in May 2010 and had this vertical garden installed by Patrick Blanc in March 2011. The Senior Minister of State for National Development and Education unveiled the garden March 24th. The total cost of the garden including design and installation was $750,000.
“There a lot of imitations in Singapore, but when they [Capitaland] saw my work they thought the imitations are a little bit different than the original work.”
This project, which he will visit on the way back from Australia, will be the fastest he’s participated in and was completed in only 4 months.
“We signed at the end of November and the project was planted in two months,” he says.
There is a great deal of concern for sustainable outcomes in Singapore, says Blanc. “They want in the future to be more and more environmental and are very much involved in sustainability.”
Patrick Blanc (born June 3, 1953 in Paris) is the inventor of vertical gardening. His first living wall was built in 1988, made at the Museum of Science and Industry in Paris.
